Helina Asfaw
Advanced Clinical Resident
As a woman of color raised in an Ethiopian family, I deeply understand how cultural identity, generational expectations, and intersectional stressors impact mental health. I also recognize the stigma that often surrounds mental health services in many communities of color, and I want to commend you for taking this brave step toward healing.
Navigating multiple cultural worlds can lead to challenges such as impostor syndrome, anxiety, and low self-worth. These experiences can make it difficult to feel present, grounded, or as though you truly belong. My role is to help you reconnect with your authentic self and develop a stronger sense of confidence, clarity, and self-compassion.
I offer culturally affirming, trauma-informed counseling in a warm and nonjudgmental space. My therapeutic style integrates person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and multicultural counseling. Together, we’ll explore your thoughts, emotions, and life experiences to help you build emotional resilience and find more peace in the present.
If you're a woman of color seeking therapy that honors your story and supports your growth, I would be honored to walk alongside you. Let’s begin your healing journey together.
I am pursuing a Masters in Counseling for Mental Health & Wellness at NYU and under the clinical supervision of Odile McKenzie, LCSW,
